After learning about Islam for so long I finally said my shahada! It was such an amazing experience that I couldn’t have done without @reverthelp 💞
Alhamdulillah! Welcome to Islam sister! May Allah keep your heart firm on Islam
Guys; please get in touch with our sister and give her a warm welcome to the family insha’Allah
A trick of the shaytaan is where he makes the haram seem harmless, so he whispers many excuses to the one committing a sin. In fact all sinners make up some sort of excuses for themselves; they all claim that they are either under pressure or stress and cannot escape except by doing these haram things. Allāh said in Surat al-Qiyamah:
On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward, and what he left behind. Nay! Man will be a witness against himself. Though he may put forth his excuses. [13-15]
So the first thing you need to do when it comes to this sort of addiction or any other is to admit to the seriousness of this problem, and not to take a cavalier or casual attitude towards it. One then needs to repent from it and resolve never to return to it again. One way of showing sincerity, repentance and resolve is to cut off all the means leading to this particular evil, and here are a few we all should consider:
1. To increase in ones du'a and voluntary salaat and fasts.
2. To keep the Qur'an and increase in its reading.
3. To remember the destroyer of pleasures (i.e. death) often.
4. To keep good and righteous company and limit the time one spends alone.
5. To keep busy and to read beneficial books or listen to Qur'an and lectures during one’s “free time”.
6. Re-direct your energy towards something more meaningful and impacting positively - e.g. get involved in your local charity or volunteer for a noble cause.
7. To seriously consider removing any visual device (PC, TV etc) from private space.
8. To disable the internet or at least make hijrah from it for a determined period of time, until one can recollect and consolidate efforts.
9. To exercise a lot and take to physical keep-fit activities. It is also a way of controlling adrenaline levels.
10. To find ways in increasing and getting will-power back**The first step in getting our will-power back is recognising our powerlessness before the All-Powerful and Almighty Allāh. This is to admit that when we get out of control and become weak, the actions we have taken have only made our problem worse. When we rely on our actions (thinking they will break us out of our addition) without relying upon Allāh, this impedes our will-power for it is Allāh alone who grants us the tawfeeq to gain what we have lost - and that is why we say ‘لا حول ولاقوة إلا بالله’. We need to constantly turn to Allāh and seek His Help and Aid in overcoming all our problems.
We should constantly think about the greatness of the One who created us and blessed us with every conceivable blessing (and more!) and how we are using and abusing His Blessings in sinning against Him. Allāh blessed one with sight and yet repays Him in utilising the eyes for haram purposes? Contemplating on this alone would jolt anyone out of their slumber and sleep-walking into disasters of our own making.
It makes me scared to think about how much time im wasting, and i will look back one day and feel regret because i havent spend it on something good
